And what else?

The rent on the storage unit increases by $75 next month. Whoa! Way past my price point.

My husband calls it “Downsizing Part 2”. Part 1 was leaving our five-bedroom house. Now it’s the storage unit.

Today we started on the “Scrap Sacks”. In the midst of raising children, I didn’t have time to make scrap books, so I slid memorabilia into 10” x 14” rip-stop envelopes. One for each year.

Forty-eight Scrap Sacks adds up — a lot of Rubbermaid tubs on a lot of utility shelves. No, we don’t get to keep them all.

We devised a plan. We’ll go through the memories in each sack, relish them one last time, and then toss them.

Today we did 2009.

No special reason. 2009 was simply the first envelope in the first tub sitting on the first shelf.

Part of the plan worked well. Concerts, plays, calendars, vacation brochures — each remembered fondly. Nothing extraordinary. We like attending dramas, not participating in them.

I saved newspaper clippings about my grandmother — my dad’s mom. I never got the chance to save the ones from my mom’s folks. Maybe some offspring will care to read about their great-(great)-grandmother some day?
